On 12 March 2025, Harmony Junior School held its Interhouse Competitions. The photograph the school published shows the children together afterwards in yellow, green, and red, with medals and trophies. Houses are already part of the weekly uniform: on Tuesdays the sports kit is a tracksuit, or white shorts and the house T-shirt. The competitions are the day that weekly loyalty becomes a public contest.
The school has not published a results table, the names of the houses, or a score. This report does not invent them. What it records is the gathering itself, the three colours in the photograph, and the fact that the children left the afternoon with medals and trophies in their hands. For a school established in 2021, a house afternoon is one of the ways a young institution gives its learners something to belong to besides a class list.
Interhouse sport sits inside the same standard as the rest of the school. Pride in Excellence is the motto on the crest. Excellence here looked like children who had raced, or played, in the colour of their house, and who stood still long enough for the photograph. Integrity looked like competing under the school’s rules. Hard work looked like the afternoon itself. The mission — grooming future Kings and Queens in a more excellent way — includes the child who learns how to lose a race and still stand with the house.
Tuesday and Thursday remain the ordinary sports-attire days. Interhouse day is the occasion on top of those days, not a replacement for them. Families who were there will recognise the kits. Families who have joined since can read this as the kind of afternoon the school is willing to stop the ordinary timetable for.
When the school travels for a fixture, it uses its own minibuses and experienced drivers. Collection, if it is not the usual last bell at 3:30, is announced by the office. The phone is 077 690 8490. The school is at 31949, Mabvazuva, Ruwa, Harare.
