Beyond the classroom, still the school
Apart from intellectual ability, a child needs nurturing in physical and creative abilities as well. At Harmony Junior School, the school takes pride in the exposure it gives students in this field. That is the school’s own account of why these activities exist. They are not a hobby club taped onto the side of the timetable. They are part of grooming the child the mission statement describes.
The taught day still has its frame. Gates open at 7:00, the first bell is at 8:00, and the last bell is at 3:30. Inside and around that frame, the school marks days that are not ordinary lessons: a choir on a stage, Africa Day on the grounds, Pizza Day at tables together, and the interhouse sports the school reported in March 2025. Pizza Day, Africa Day, and the choir are written up under News, so a parent can open the report they came for.
Tuesday and Thursday are already sports-attire days in the uniform guide. Physical life is therefore also a weekly fact, not only a once-a-term event. The tracksuit, the house T-shirt, and the golf T-shirt exist because the week contains movement. The pages below are the named occasions on top of that weekly rhythm.
Three programmes, three indexes
The school publishes three extra-curricular occasions as their own subjects.
- Africa Day — how Harmony celebrated Africa Day 2024, out on the grounds by the hall and the classrooms.
- Choir — the school choir, on stage and at outdoor performances, in the school’s own photographs.
- Pizza Day — a favourite afternoon together, with the children gathered at tables.
Read the page rather than a caption. Each one says what the occasion is, what the photographs show, and what a family can expect the school to mean by it.
Interhouse sport
On 12 March 2025 the school held Interhouse Competitions. The photograph shows children in yellow, green, and red kits, with medals and trophies. Houses are already named in the Tuesday uniform — the house T-shirt — so the competitions are the public form of a loyalty the children wear every sports Tuesday. The report lives on the news page.
When the school leaves the grounds for a fixture or a performance, it uses its own minibuses and its experienced drivers. That link is deliberate. Extra-curricular life and transport meet on the days the whole group travels.
What parents are asked to do
Send the right clothes. A choir day and a sports day are not surprises if you have read the uniform page and the note from the office. Name the clothes. Collect your child at the time the office gives you if the afternoon is not an ordinary 3:30. Pay attention to a letter about Africa Day or Pizza Day the way you pay attention to a letter about fees: it is the school speaking, and the child is counting on you to have heard it.
